A sad fact in modern day society is that we can all hide behind a mask of happiness. We can function easily on a day to day basis yet we can also hide our deepest depression with a smile and the usual comments ‘ I’m fine’ or ‘I’m doing good thanks’.
Rather than being truthful with how we really feel, we gloss over our emotions and feelings with fleeting white lies. We claim to be OK, when deep down we are broken people crying out to be loved, accepted and wanted.
Depression comes in many guises…according to WebMD there are 12 types of depression, others will say there are more related reasons. This could be Major Depression, Anxious Distress, Melancholy, Agitation, Persistent Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Seasonal Affective Disorder, Psychotic Depression, Peripartem Depression, Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, Situational Depression, Atypical Depression and Treatment Resistant Depression.
It is a subject that is sparking my interest the more I deal with clients who suffer depression. I went through a spell of depression when we suffered miscarriage and still birth. Also when anxiety hit me hard or when I did too much I’d reach burnout which had a depressive effect on my life.
